who
My name’s Flavia, I live in Turin, and I’m an architect. But many years ago, I decided to change my life and focus on this project, becoming a craftswoman—or better yet, an "ARCHIGIANA" ;) At first, I juggled both jobs, but after almost 8 years, I stopped being afraid, quit my "steady" job, and threw myself completely into Arkyfly. I opened my own business, set up my workshop, and became fully independent, handling everything from assembling pieces to managing social media and the website. By 2023, I even started making my own plexiglass sheets from production scraps.
And almost from the start of this adventure, there’s been Alessandro, who’s been supporting (and mostly putting up with) me through all my creative phases 😅
when
It all started in 2010 after a rough patch at work. I didn’t know anything about jewelry or plexiglass, but I dove into this world anyway. As for jewelry, I gained experience in assembly and creation at a small shop in Turin run by my friend Veronica, who helped me get started and grow. For plexiglass, I turned to a big company in Rivoli that handled large-scale work, but they used scraps to make solid-colored shapes for small pendants that I designed.
The beginning was tough, of course. Very few stores believed in me, and back then, plexiglass wasn’t considered a suitable material for making jewelry. Then in 2017, I opened my Etsy shop, and that’s when everything changed. I still remember my first sale—less than a month later, to San Francisco! The excitement of receiving that order, mixed with the fear of not really knowing what I was doing, is something I’ll never forget!
what
Arkyfly is an Italian artisan brand that designs and creates jewelry and objects in plexiglass. But it’s more than that. It represents my refusal to belong to any specific style or group. There were times in the past when I thought I needed to align my style with current trends or follow the advice of "industry experts," but it was only when I stopped listening to others and started looking within that my brand truly began to grow.
Of course, my products don’t cater to the masses—sometimes only 2 or 3 people might like a particular piece. But those pieces are exactly what those people were looking for, and couldn’t find anywhere else. And sometimes, the satisfaction of connecting with a few individuals is far greater than selling a lot just because it’s trendy ;)
where
It all started in Turin. At first, I worked from home, then I bought my first tools and moved into a garage for a few years. When the business started to take off, I relocated to a workshop not far from downtown Turin, where I produce and display my work. The hours spent working, designing, gaining the necessary experience, and a little bit of luck allowed me to grow from selling in just a few shops in Turin to now selling all over the world!
My packages have been shipped everywhere: the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, South America, and nearly all of Europe. I also have many retail stores across Europe :)
why
Because it makes me happy.
It allows me to do what I love, to express myself, and to make a living from my art and creations.
But it's not just that.
It makes others happy.
How do I know? Because when people buy my products, they often write to tell me how much joy they bring, how they make them laugh, and how they spark conversations with people who see them worn.
And the thought that a small part of me is traveling around the world... well, that's the part that makes me most euphoric.
I've been doing this job for a long time now, but I'll never get used to this. I'll never stop being thrilled at the idea that someone is choosing exactly what I create.
And if I ever do get used to all of this, then it would be time for me to stop.
But I hope that never happens!
